Folaranmi Babalola is a professor of forest economics and management in the Department of Forest Resources Management at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. His areas of specialisation include forest socio-economics and environmental forestry. He currently serves as the Head of the Department (2024 to date) and has been the chairman of the Unilorin Teak Plantation (2017 to date) and the Unilorin Campus Tree Management Committee (2024 to date). From 2012 to 2017, he held a postdoctoral fellowship and served as an extraordinary and visiting lecturer in the Postgraduate Forest Science Programme at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Presently, he is a visiting scientist at the African Forest Forum hosted by CIFOR-ICRAF, Nairobi, Kenya. Prof. Babalola has an extensive academic portfolio, with about 200 scientific publications, and he has made presentations at local and international conferences. He has received 20 grants, as well as over 50 international sponsorships. He served as a consultant to the FAO on small-scale forestry in Africa and the African Forest Forum, Kenya, on forestry education. He actively participates in professional societies such as the International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), and Society for Conservation Biology (SCB). As a recognised academic, he has served as an external examiner for universities within and outside Nigeria and has successfully supervised four master’s and six doctoral students. In addition, he is the founder of the NGO “Save Sahara Network,” which is saving nature and empowering people at the grassroots
